I had to rip a DVD into a file to distribute recently. I kinda hoped Sony’s Vegas or Adobe Premier would have a feature to do it, but it turned out, they don’t. (Vegas had this import feature that could read VOB file in the DVD, but somehow it got stuck around 39% completion while loading the file. Premier Pro 7 wasn’t capable to read the file. Of course, maybe it was me who is too dumb to find the existing features.)
So, I tried several DVD rip programs in a hope to get an acceptable quality movie file.
* Failed:
DVD Rip Master
MovkitDVDCopy
Super DVD Ripper
Easy DVD Rip
One of the above actually made a movie file, but I am not sure which it was, and anyway, the movie file had a problem with it audio. In about every 10 sec, sound was lost for 1 sec.
*Successful
Flash DVD Ripper
This is the winner, since it produced a fine movie file even though it took more time than I expected. (the movie was total 10 min. long) But it was easy to use.
Flash DVD Ripper is a shareware application that gives you a chance to try up to 9 times. Since I had to use this only one time, I didn’t buy it, but if you are planning to get one, I would recommend this definately. (Of course, you would want to try it before you pay for it.)
I had a few other apps on my list of just-in-case, but since I’d spent about a day on this ripping thing, I have to move on.
